George Beadle (1903-1989) would be awarded the Nobel Prize in physiology or medicine in 1958. Research Corporation’s early support of Beadle’s work came in a 1944 grant for research on the induction and detection of biochemical mutations in Neurospora Crassa.
Edward L. Tatum (1909-1975) also would receive the Nobel Prize in physiology or medicine in 1958. He was awarded Research Corporation grants in 1946 and 1947 for research on the uses of isotopes in the study of the biosynthesis of amino acids and vitamins by mutant strains of neurospora and E. coli.
