1981

In 1981, Cornell University Press published “The Fungus Fighters,” the story of Rachel Brown and Elizabeth Hazen’s discovery of the first antibiotic useful against human fungal diseases. The two women devoted all royalties from their discovery to the support of new research through Research Corporation’s Brown-Hazen Fund for Medical Mycology.
The book, authored by former Research Corporation Secretary Richard Baldwin, examined the contributions of Brown and Hazen, and surveyed current knowledge of fungal diseases and research in the field.
